Global Missions

Global missions often teach us how to minister to those whose situations break our hearts.  They also can show us where our faith is lacking, and how those without the resources of developed countries have faith that can move mountains.  Our experiences abroad have humbled us, changed us, and empowered us to do more to build Christ’s church here on earth.  We welcome those with a heart for this service to join us in these adventures in faith.

Haiti

We have taken several mission trips to Haiti over the past few summers.  Check out the videos below:

[nggallery id=2]Some activities we engaged in while in Haiti included taking supplies to tent cities and extremely poor communities, holding a Bible School for children in the Cite Soleil slum, building a wall, working in a medical clinic, and fellowship with Haitians.  Take a look at the video below, taken on our third mission trip to Haiti in February 2012.

5 Loans, Two Fish Haitian micro loan

Stemming from our desire to make a lasting impact on Haiti, Montrose Zion UMC has partnered with a Northeast Ohio micro finance organization and is in the process of creating a micro finance program in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  We have raised $50,000  to begin the loan program in late 2013, and are working with Haitian natives to begin this work  to reach more lives than a handout can give them.  Our goal is to use this program to reach people in positive ways for Christ.

What is micro finance?  It’s a sustainable way to empower Haitians to use their talents to alleviate poverty.  Here’s more information on our program and how to help:
