Local / Regional Missions

“Truly, I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”(Matthew 25:40) At Montrose Zion, we are involved in local/regional missions because we believe that God uses them to shape us, to change our hearts, and to grow and mature our faith. We learn that being involved in missions is not to make us feel good about ourselves, but to serve as Jesus did…without hesitation and with a loving heart for those we touch.

Urban Vision:

Urban Vision is a Christ-centered ministry serving children, youth and their families in the Elizabeth Park/North Hill areas of downtown Akron. The organization provides opportunities for these neighborhood children to study the Bible, receive tutoring, go to summer camp, and participate in sports, all while earning the chance to shop at the ministry’s “store” which is stocked with staples donated by various groups. Ways that Montrose Zion members have served include: cooking and serving meals at Kids’ Club and Family Night Camp, after school tutoring, painting, gardening/beautification projects, donating items for the Christmas Store, and fund-raising to provide hot water to critical areas of the building.

Open-M:

Our congregation and Open-M Team join efforts to serve almost one thousand hot lunches throughout the year, and help to fill over 200 Christmas baskets for Open-M. There are many on-going programs as well as seasonal projects, some requiring only a few hours and some calling for a greater commitment.

Teen Missions:

Service Events performed every other month with opportunities to serve the community. As Christians we are called to help those in need. As a youth group we want to serve our community here at Montrose Zion. We do this by volunteering at Open M, Urban Vision, and serving our community. The youth also have a summer mission trip to serve outside of our local community.

Habitat For Humanity Getting Ready to Build Their Next Home!

It's time to prepare for another Habitat for Humanity project in the Akron area. MZUMC, as part of Habitat Volunteer Builders (HVB) will be building a house at 1180 McIntosh Ave. in Akron (Kenmore). The official starting date is Friday, August 13th. The "blitz" week, will continue on Saturday, August 14th and continue daily throughout the following week. As part of our commitment to the Habitat program, we are requesting financial support from the MZUMC community. Donated funds help to cover the cost of materials for the house we are building. Please make checks payable to MZUMC, with "Habitat" on the memo line. Checks may be placed in the Sunday morning offering plates or mailed to the church office. As we approach our 2010 build, we look forward to your participation. Please pray for the project as we reach out to show God's love in our community.
