Local / Regional Missions

“Truly, I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”(Matthew 25:40) At Montrose Zion, we are involved in the Akron area and beyond.  We believe that God uses our missional experiences to shape us, to change our hearts, and to grow and mature our faith. We learn that being involved in missions is not merely to make us feel good about ourselves, but to serve as Jesus did…without hesitation and with a loving heart for those we touch.

Urban Vision:

Urban Vision is a Christ-centered ministry serving children, youth and their families in an impoverished neighborhood in the North Hill area of Akron. The organization provides opportunities for neighborhood children to receive after school tutoring and supplemental learning through the several programs they offer. These efforts have allowed many students to improve in their scholastic proficiency. Students have also been provided instruction in several electives including Bible quiz, Bible study, ballet, instrumental music, leadership, art, and athletics.

Student Ministry Missions:

Our students are encouraged to participate in opportunities to serve the community. As Christians we are called to help those in need. The middle-school and high-school students have served the Greater Akron community by volunteering at Wheels of Hope, Open-M, Urban Vision, nursing homes, the Akron Regional Foodbank, Haven of Rest homeless shelter and others. Another opportunity to serve is the summer mission trip, which gives students the chance to reach out and show Christ’s love to others in another state.  Youth travelled in July 2014 to Milwaukee.  The youth have served in past years in Chicago, New York City, Washington D.C., and Nashville.

Shawl Ministry:

We provide shawls and lap robes as tangible representations of prayer for members of the church family who are ill or grieving.  We also provide hats and scarves to various groups in the area to keep children and adults warm through the winter.
